Biography

Miquela is a digital character launched by Brud on Instagram in 2016. Sequoia's interview with creator Trevor McFedries describes him creating the persona before working with Sara Decou. Selfies, relationships and everyday incidents formed an ongoing character story. Her advertising and social imagery uses a CGI likeness; describing herself as a robot is part of that fictional identity. [2]

Music soon became a separate strand of the project. Her official Bandcamp dates “Not Mine” to 10 August 2017 and “You Should Be Alone” to 15 November that year; the former also received an Anamanaguchi remix. These singles established a recording identity that audiences could listen to repeatedly, alongside her presence in images. [4] [5] [1]

“Right Back,” released on 10 April 2019, documents a more visible production team. It credits Miquela Sousa, Sarah Aarons and Whethan as writers, Jordan Palmer as producer and Jon Castelli as mixer. Character credits coexist with human musicians' work; the listing does not establish autonomous composition. The official catalogue also lists “Money / Sleeping In” and “Wasted” that year. [6] [1]

The 23 April 2020 release “Machine” includes a collaboration with Teyana Taylor and names Brud Records in its release information. “Hard Feelings (Audius Remixes)” followed in August as a two-track remix edition. Collaborations and remixes place the digital identity within a pop-music production network involving human singers, producers and a releasing label. [7] [8] [9]

The studio also changed. Sequoia's 2022 retrospective records Dapper Labs acquiring Brud in 2021, an event in the production organization's history rather than in Miquela's fictional life. Discussing his creative aims, McFedries puts songwriters, designers and writers at the centre of the virtual celebrity's production. Her early development consequently spans character storytelling, CG imagery and actual record-making. [2]

This account covers origins, representative recordings and production history through 2022. You Should Be Alone uses Bandcamp’s 2017 release date; some streaming editions show 2018. Vocalist identities, track-by-track recording methods and the complete post-2022 career remain unverified; robot fiction does not establish autonomous AI.
